CASE STUDY.02
Business Challenge
One of the largest international providers of financial solutions for private and business clients was desperately in need of a content aggregation and delivery mechanism that would allow them to simplify access to the wealth of analytical information accumulated by equity research teams. Two Business entities (International Research Group and North American Research Group) used different storage facilities and different data structures to store same kind of information. Poor technology decisions made in the past led to an increasing number of client-side desktop applications that the research specialists had to use on a day-to-day basis.
Technology Solution
The bank turned to virtuace, inc. to conceptualize, build, and deploy Global Equity Research Extranet (GERE). After vendor selection, an evaluation process decision was made to use existing content management. Considering unique data retrieval requirements, other third-party tool was selected to create an additional data integration layer to simplify access to disparate data sources.
After 2 months, virtuace, inc. delivered a customized thin-client solution that enabled the bank to consolidate research done by different business groups. The new tool allowed cross-referencing of analysts with industries and companies under their area of expertise. In addition to existing reports functionality, a module was developed to provide management with a set of user activity reports for the new system.
Results
This state-of-the-art system extended the bank's reach beyond its traditional boundaries by leveraging the Internet to provide an information portal for employees and later for the general public. When the GERE was launched at the bank's research conference, the system became an immediate success. The bank was able to rapidly deploy the system to all of its research groups, reaping the benefits of the system instantaneously. A once complicated process of extracting data from multiple sources was successfully improved into an automated single source application process, allowing reduction of time and operational costs spent on research.
